richard lichten - frost

"Stylish dramatic triphop/downbeat with strong dark ambient and industrial spice - think of Massive Attack going on a winter holiday with Coil and Anne Clark."

Born of the idea of a musical painting of an icy and beautiful day in the mid of winter, "frost" came out as an album standing between genres like Massive-Attack or DJ-Shadow style trip-hop, electronic movie scores, 80ies Dark-Wave, Coil-ish melodic industrial, and some rock and pop structural influence. In the process of continuing the (long) work on this album, movie samples and occasional vocal takes increasingly formed a tension between bleaker views on human destiny and hope through personal integrity, corrresponding to the musical tension between beautiful melodic elements and biting to chilling sounds.

"Recording "frost" was a learning experience and the result is something of an singular experiment, in some ways a tribute to the melancholic musical mood of the 80ies. Upcoming music will take on different directions - after all, frost is a winter phenomena, winter is only one season of the year, and the other seasons are as interesting, and warmer."

And finally: thanks to earth, winds, and fate for everything, even though they probably won´t notice.
